When I was working on the pages in this part of the story, I needed to create a character guide to keep straight which of these masked natives I’d already seen and which were new. Many of the masks look similar, but are all unique. So I had to be careful to get the coloring to match the right wood cutting.

Notice the strange symbols that the natives are saying.  They are part of a code that you can translate with this cipher:
